Frequently Asked Questions

Q:How do I get started?
A:You must select a source folder (where the files you would like to backup are located) and a destination folder (where you want to save a copy of your files) before you can begin the backing up process. Once you have selected two drives, simply click the ‘Start’ button to begin.
Q:Why can’t I hit the ‘Start’ button after launching the application?
A:You need to select both a source and destination drive before you can begin a backup. The size available on the destination drive must be larger than the size of your source folder.
Q:May I backup to USB drives or USB sticks?
A:Yes, you are able to backup to any external drive that Windows detects.
Q:May I backup to multiple destination folders (e.g. multiple USB drives or USB sticks)?
A:AutoPCBackup only allows you to backup to one destination folder at a time, however, once your first backup is complete you can change the destination folder and perform a second one if you’d like.
Q:May I backup from multiple source folders?
A:AutoPCBackup only allows you to backup from one source folder at a time, however, once your first backup is complete you can change the source folder and perform a second one if you’d like.
Q:How often does AutoPCBackup check my drive for changes?
A:AutoPCBackup will check your drive every 10 minutes for changes before backing them up onto your destination drive. This timeframe is configurable in Settings.
Q:After AutoPCBackup detects a change made in my source folder, how long does it take for a backup to occur?
A:AutoPCBackup will backup your drive 1 minute after detecting a change in your source folder. This timeframe is configurable in Settings.
Q:Can I perform a one-time backup instead of keeping the real time protection on?
A:Yes. You can run your initial backup and once it is complete, turn the protection status to off. You can also initiate this action direction from your toolbar.
Q:If I delete a file from my source folder, will AutoPCBackup delete the corresponding file from my destination drive?
A:No, AutoPCBackup does not delete files from your destination folder as a safeguard.
Q:Will AutoPCBackup slow down my machine?
A:AutoPCBackup does run in the background to provide you with automatic backup protection, but will only search for changes in your source folder periodically. You can manage how often the search is performed in Settings to lower this frequency if you’d prefer.
Q:What happens if I shut down during backup or restore?
A:AutoPCBackup will shut down and end the backup, but a new backup will commence once your computer reboots.
Q:What happens when my destination drive is full?
A:AutoPCBackup will stop backing up your drive when you have only 100MB of available space left. You will need to free up space on your destination drive before another backup can occur.
Q:What happens when I restore my files?
A:When you choose to restore your files, AutoPCBackup will create a copy of your destination drive onto your original source drive. The default behavior will be to overwrite your existing folder, but you will have the option to create a copy.
Q:How do I uninstall AutoPCBackup?
